The NCU Library is the largest scientific and public library in northern Poland. Our institution has rendered great service to the national culture. Our tradition reaches back to the beginnings of the 20th century. The NCU Library services almost 50 000 students and NCU workers as well as several thousand citizens of Toruń and the region.
The library has over 3 million items in its collection made up of books, journals and special collections from all over the world. Among them are unique medieval manuscripts, old prints from the 15th to 18th centuries, paintings and graphics from Polish and European art, scores, atlases, maps from the beginning of 16th century, archives, book collections and keepsakes from outstanding emigrants and institutions from Polish emigration in the 20th century. The NCU Library is the only academic library that has within its structure a University Museum. This institution collects paintings, sculptures and other objects of Polish and World culture.
We owe the richness and uniqueness of many of our special collections items not only to history but also to the help and kindness of our Friends and Donors worldwide. Since the very beginning, the NCU Library has been receiving gifts in the form of priceless collections, archives of books, documents and art works, as well as single items of more or less scientific value, both museum pieces and those with emotional meaning.
